I make pottery rooted in a medieval and fantasy aesthetic: hand-thrown forms that feel like they could live in a castle pantry, a wizard’s workshop, or on a tavern shelf. My pieces lean into strong silhouettes, textured surfaces, and glazing that evokes aged metal, salt-worn stone, or alchemical patinas. I favor earthy clays, robust rims, and functional shapes—tankards that feel solid in the hand, bowls with carved glyphs, and cups with irregular, timeworn edges.

That said, I’m intentionally open to experimentation. I want to keep my core voice; historic motifs, mythic ornament, rich tactile finishes, while exploring new techniques and influences that could deepen or surprise the work. Areas I’m excited to try include:

• Surface experimentation: layered glazes, reactive firings, flash kiln effects, and lustre-like finishes to add unexpected color and shimmer to medieval forms.

• Texture & mark-making: incorporating contemporary tools, stamps, and resist methods to reinterpret classic motifs, runic patterns, heraldic symbols, and organic bark-like textures.

• Mixed media details: subtle metallic inlays, leather or textile accents, and small forged elements that enhance the fantasy narrative without compromising function.

• Form fusion: blending asymmetry and modern ergonomics into medieval silhouettes—lighter handles, stackable shapes, and nested sets that keep the look but improve usability.

• Alternative clays & firing bodies: testing grogged stoneware, red-bodied clays, and low-fire experiments to shift color, weight, and finish while maintaining the medieval vibe.

• Collaborative spins: partnering with illustrators, blacksmiths, or textile artists to add layered storytelling elements—etched scenes, tiny attached charms, or coordinated table settings.

My guiding rule: every new technique or influence must serve the aesthetic and the story. I’ll push boundaries, but I won’t abandon the atmosphere that defines my work. The goal is pottery that reads as medieval/fantasy at first glance, yet surprises and delights on closer inspection like pieces that feel familiar to a bygone world but carry small, modern innovations that make them livable and compelling today.
